In the summer of 1945, Charlotte businessman F.H. Ross, Sr. and Carrier Corporation engineer C.N. Witmer formed one of the Charlotte area’s first heating and air conditioning companies. Mr. Ross and Mr. Witmer had a simple, shared goal: to expertly install high quality products made by a leading manufacturer. And so began the exemplary HVAC contractor that is an industry leader today.

Since its acquisition by Ralph W. Phillips, the air conditioning company has been family-operated for three generations. Through each generation, Ross & Witmer has been committed to providing high-quality and efficient heating, cooling, and mechanical service to homes and businesses. Mr. Ross and Mr. Witmer had a simple, shared goal: to expertly install high quality heating and cooling products made by a leading manufacturer. They chose Carrier and so began the 76 year story of a company that is an exemplary HVAC contractor and industry leader today.

Although Mr. Ross and Mr. Witmer are no longer involved, their legacy has continued since the company’s acquisition by Ralph W. Phillips in the sixties. Ross and Witmer has been family-operated for three generations since. Through each generation, Ross & Witmer has been committed to providing high-quality and efficient heating, cooling, and mechanical service to homes and businesses in the Charlotte area.

Today the company is proud to have grown under the leadership of Clay Phillips who took over from his father, Danny Phillips, several years ago. Ross and Witmer has expanded its service offerings to include Electrical, Insulation, and Home Performance Services, including clean and sealed crawlspaces and attics. We believe that our customers want a complete solution provider for their home or business and these additional services have allowed us to meet these growing demands. We have also expanded throughout the region with the recent acquisitions of two well-respected businesses – Nicholson Company in the Hendersonville/Asheville area and Melton Heating and Cooling in Rock Hill, SC. We proudly welcome these companies and their communities to the Ross and Witmer family.
