When your Charlotte area home needs an HVAC contractor, it’s important to know what attributes to look for. After all, when hiring an HVAC contractor, you want to find the best one available, no matter how long it takes. To make the search as short as possible, follow these tips that we’ve compiled:

  • Ask people you know – Since nearly everyone needs an HVAC contractor for their home at some point, your first course of action should be to ask for recommendations from people you trust. This could shorten your search considerably.
  • Get a list of references – Any confident contractor will have no problem providing you with a list of references. Call each one and ask about his or her individual experience with the contractor’s professionalism, start and end times, customer service, etc. To ensure a random sampling, choose a letter from the alphabet and ask to receive a list of references with last names that begin with that letter.
  • Expect a home evaluation – For an installation or significant repair, your new contractor should want to inspect your HVAC system and home, so they’ll know what they’re dealing with before recommending a course of action.
  • Check for local and state requirements – Each contractor must meet specific requirements when it comes to being licensed, bonded and insured. If the contractor meets these requirements, they should have no problem supplying you with the appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure knowledge of your system – While most homes use standard heating and cooling equipment such as furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps, an increasing number of households are beginning to install alternate methods such as radiant systems, geothermal and solar energy. If so, be sure that the contractor you hire is familiar with these systems.
  • Ask about NATE certification – NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification confirms these industry professionals have undertaken and completed stringent testing to ensure they’re the best in the HVAC industry.
